was sitting in basic restaurant, stellenosch, this afternoon with martina. the owner is a midget and somehow martina and i started a discussion on how much chances does a midget have in dating. i do not remember how it started but here are some ideas about midget dating chances.

starting arguments were two prejudices that women do choose partners first on the basis of power so looks is far in the second place to social position and social intelligence (which amount to power), and that women focus more on details like eyes, etc so how different the whole body is not so important as to how some details work out.

i do not like such prejudice but it was one of the starting arguments…

most women might not like a midget cause of the instinct to resist bad genes, but more intelligent/sophisticated women might be attracted exactly cause of they are different. being attracted to different is good for genes and there is always a % of population which goes a bit too far with this. again all this is retarded prejudice just for the sake of a stupid argument… i really have no idea what i am talking about…

so if there is a % of people who go for different, some of them cause they want something super different because of some subconscious urge to improve the species, they might go for a midget. example is how many people do consume midget porn or stuff like that. some of it is fucked up i guess but it is an example of how things develop between humans.

so if there is a % of these people in every society and if you cross-reference it to % of midgets in he same society it turns out that there are far more people interested in extreme different and midgets than they would be in anything else.

there are more women who really would want to date and try a midget per midget than in case of a photo model for example.

i am not really into well organized writing today but you get my point…

does it work out if you are extremely different and you always end up having more people interested, than being super general so everybody is interested but little bit… these are surely not only two options…

i will try to talk to the owner of basic restaurant, stellenbosch, maybe… and get his view on things… but that could be very subjective and not really a reliable conclusion.
second was that most men’s bodies are fucked up, i mean, people my generation are hardly handsome, a lot of them are fat slobs who can not do much physically. so being a midget does not seem like a huge disadvantage since most people do not much with their genetically appropriate bodies. ok, if you are in boulder or california or some olympic training center this could not work but in most places men look like shit after 25…

this argument makes some sense…

i was robbed again. this time our house was robbed and my bike was stolen, martina’s computer and some other stuff.

also i have been feeling super weak in training and i had an ecg test in sports science institute and my heart is in a mess, so i need to see a cardiologist on tuesday and check it out.

so it could be a really bad week but i do not feel so bad, it gave me some time to finish up some stuff and relax a bit. i did some basic training to maintain the strength and i organized buying a new bike on monday.

i am just supper annoyed by people around me who keep talking how horrible everything is. it seems that when something bad happens there is this horde of people who can’t wait for it so they can bother me with their theories about how world is going to hell, how crime is higher, how endurance sports is super dangerous, how everything is dangerous and negative and eventually it is all shit.

like one ironman guy here had a car crash and he suddenly hates south africa, says he knows “what these people are capable of”. wtf! i mean, you can have a car crash anywhere in the world. anyone who starts sentences with “these people…” should be smacked in the face immediately.

fact about our robbery is that we do not know if we actually locked the door or not.

i do not know, i am quite annoyed by people who are so negative. i really do not care if im robbed or if im going to die in a week or if i am sick or whatever. why should i? it will happen anyway. whats the point of drama. i mean i like drama in a sense i talk to friends about it and we make jokes, i get some attention and its fun and than we talk about something else. im into marketing anyway so i love attention and anything that gives me attention, but i do not like superficial everything sucks bullshit.

very boring…

im free these days so if you wanna do something fun, like make a nice website, let me know, but if you have theories how world is going to end and nothing works and everything is shit then fuck off…

such is the life i chose. i am aware of risks. people who are surprised by bad stuff are fools.

i am not into animal sculptures. i mean, i never had much contact. current art offering is so big and i was never a fan of consuming too much art, so i narrowed down my interests on most basic things which have most impact on me. closest i got to sculpture is rodin in paris, i really enjoy his work, especially that door to hell, that is amazing.

but…

now that i am in stellenbosch and most major intersections have a sculpture by dylan lewis, a local sculptor, i had no choice but to experience this art form day after day and i grew to appreciate it a bit more.

my first impression was that a place like stellenbosch definitely could use a more controversial art in the streets. i mean stellenbosch is the most escapist isolated place on planet: while you sit in caffes and sip espressos and overpay for steaks and fish dishes, mingle with cheer leaders and rugby players, live in huge houses with pools, few hundred meters are thousands of people living in super fucked up conditions. it is like 1 min by car difference. amazing!

so i thought there is need for art to shake this up a bit, maybe something to remind people how really weird this place is. not bad, i mean, can i say this is bad, i do not know, i guess it is but that would be boring to say, but at least to explore this unique social structure, this human ability to be so paranoid.

so i was very annoyed by sculptures of running cheetahs. i mean, it does not say much, or teach much.

but it grew on me. dylan lewis (dylanlewis.com) stuff is pretty and i think pretty after all connects everybody and everything. it is an absolute. it is cool. it is something a super fucked up black guy from khayamandi and a super rich white investor from stellenbosch center can both appreciate (im using blunt stereotypes for the sake of the effect).

anyway, nice to experience different things sometimes, like this super conservative yet pretty art.

i like artists fingerprints in the sculptures, thats a nice touch.

as many know i help out few triathletes with branding and web “stuff”. it is a nice project and it makes me happy 90% of the time (quite high, almost as sex). i organized it under nekadatriathlonteam.com. one of the athletes i work with is three time xterra world champion conrad stoltz. he is like a major legend of triathlon and has been a professional for almost two decades – one of the few great ones from the good old days but he still kicks a lot of ass.

anyway…

conrad came to stellenbosch only for a month for some easy training and sponsor work but i am guessing he is eager to go home to his farm which is many many many kilometers into the real africa.

i mean, conrad’s place is none of this wishy-washy-ferrari-fuck-teenage-students-eat-italian-icecream-drink-coffee-at-vida stellenbosch and cape town bullshit. it is real africa.

it is a place where insects are big enough to eat cows and air is as thick as yoghurt. a place where men must hunt wild animals from age of zero and women give birth while they wrestle angry hyenas. no joke, i have seen the photos and have heard the stories.

even though you might not care for sports check out <a href="http://www.conradstoltz.com" target="_blank>conradstoltz.com.

at the moment i am in die laan street in stellenbosch. i think there are more olympic and world championship medals within 500m of me than anywhere else in the world. there are olympic champions, multiple world champions and also plenty of world’s top ten in houses close to the stellenbosch university track, gym and pool. even the french penthatlon and british rowing teams are here.

various display of types of bodies from super lean and fast to super huge and powerful are moving around the town all day in various speeds. there are 18 year old girls who squat five times more than me with just one leg and there are guys who look like terminator without the live tissue.

this year i would like to break the serbian ironman record, improve it a little bit maybe, and than i will see if i keep my sport hobby going. this is why i came here, to do some training and experience the sport life.

but i am a bit bored… and when i am bored i get annoyed, frustrated and negative… and it all just bores me even more.

i am bored intelectualy, ethically, aesthetically and bullshitally – i guess.

athletes are all super cool when they are on tv and you can switch to another channel when you get bored, but when you are around them all the time you realize that focus does not allow much space for discussions about poetry and morality and what john carpenter, lego and nietschze have in common.

i am an alien in a foreign land… i mean i always have been cause i could never really assimilate anywhere… but this is super extreme now. even though i train four hours a day i am not an athlete. i am just a guy who trains a lot. it is not my identity, it is hygiene and a routine – not me.

i mean, i can only think if i talk, and i haven’t got anyone to talk around here.

i guess it is time to move to a place where there are lot of people who talk otherwise i will start talking to trees.

i will try to survive few more months, do the race in july, and then we will see.

i was riding my bike near khayamandi, township for which bmx track i worked on the songo.info project, and while i was slowly climbing a hill i noticed four kids. the tallest one with huge sunglasses ran behind me and started pulling me left pocket. in confusion i yelled: hey! and started riding harder. i honestly thought he was playing a prank on me, like its some kind of a joke they do on cyclists. for some reason cyclists are often an object of pranks and i am used to it – that when i ride i will meet an occasional prankster who will yell at me or do something like that.

so he was pulling me for few seconds and i was going forward making sure i do not fall. i think he too was very careful that i do not fall. if he wanted he could have pushed me over easy but he did not. then he stopped with the pulling and i continued cycling. suddenly i realized that he might have taken something from my pocket, i checked and my cellphone was gone. i looked back at them and i even thought of stopping but than i just rode on. i really did not feel like fighting four township kids over a 30 euro cellphone.

i did not get upset or scared. just continued with my training. i mean i wanted to donate some stuff to khayamandi anyway so i guess this was it, at least part of it. khayamandi looks like an interesting place, just few days ago i entered it for a bit and there was nice music and bunch of people walking around etc… looks cool.

also this robber, i mean, really amazing guy. he was so professional, he did not hurt me, he knew exactly what to get, he was so diligent and professional. amazing level of skill and daring. if he would only channel that into something more productive, maybe he will later on, maybe taking my cell phone was something productive for them. who knows…

when i told the story to some other guys who cycle there they spoke about taking some pepper spray. i am not an expert on personal security but i strongly suggest against anything aggressive. when i was in brasov, romania, i ran in the night there, and there are lots of bears who dig around the garbage. i did not meet any bears but i was told that bears attack when they are scared of people, when they are surprised. you get my point. if you are robbed by suggestion is to give what you have and look down and let it finish as smooth and quick as possible. smart thing is to have something to give like maybe 50 euros or a cheap cell phone.

if you have nothing to give or you have something to give but you do not want to give it than the problem starts and it can go bad. you have to understand these kids are twice as scared as you are and also kids are kids, they are cruel and angry at the world. all teenagers are. do not provoke them, give them some basic emotional satisfaction of them having power over you, they will enjoy that, will look in front of friends, and will soon move on. be smart.

one hit in your eye can blind you, one hit in your mouth can make you loose your teeth. a lot of these kids have aids and if you get a bit of their blood on your blood thats quite more serious than loosing little money.

also forget having expensive cell phones and ipods and jewelry. these are like magnets for trouble.

bottom line is the tsotsi culture owes me a 30 euro cellphone which is nothing. however a seapoint millinaire robbed me of some 400 euros and that i can do nothing about. also some cycling trading guy robbed me in a much more aggressive way and he still operates with most cape town cyclists. and i was scammed by a port elizabeth bnb place. so tsotsis are somewhat at only few % of what south african scam artists have stolen from me in past years.

i am not so much worried about tsotsi as much as i am worried by white collar crime in south africa – land lords, tourist agents and such. substantial amount of business agents in south africa are scam artist – not only according to my experiences but also to a lot of my friends who live here for decades. criminal turnover and damage these scam artists cause is probably far greater than 10 times what township kids achieve, and they are feel very safe and very arrogant as it seems they are never prosecuted.

so i can respect the tsotsi who robbed me today, took my cell phone, he took very little and he did it in a safe way. maybe that was luck but still it felt ok. if he asked i might have given it to him anyway, it costs as much as i spend on coffee in 3 days. what i can not do is respect those who can not resist robbing tourists through internet schemes and bullshit exchange rates and such crap. scam artists. fuckem!

i just met a swiss ironman athlete and we had some wine and chocolate cake in the center of stellenbosch. while i was walking home i noticed two small crabs on the ground. i instinctively picked one up and wanted to show it to martina, my girlfriend, who was home. i decided to carry the crab to our flat without harming it.

it was a bit difficult as the crab tried to push itself off.

while it was struggling i started thinking how i did a terrible thing and i felt very sad that i first took this crab away from its mate and also i was full of respect for this little creature that amongst all the terror of being picked up was still fighting and trying to save itself. i decided to continue anyway because i started it and wanted to finish what i started. the crab kept trying to free itself. crabs do not have face expressions nor make sounds but i was projecting a face of extreme panic onto it.

home was few hundred meters away and somewhere in the middle i met some cats. i was interested to see what would cats think of this crab. one wanted to cuddle and i showed it the crab but it was not interested. the cat did not share my enthusiasm.

when i got home i told martina i have a gift for her and that she should close her eyes. she was lying in bed watching a movie. at first i wanted to put the crab in her palm but than i realize she might get too scared so i decided to just show it her from my hand. she got a bit scared and than she said how cruel it was that i took it from its home and how terrified it must be. it just made me feel worst that i did this but i also wanted to share the discovery of this animal with her – do not ask me why, i do not know.

i put the crab in my training shoe and it seemed to feel better there as it had a place to hide. it seemed so weak and fragile while hiding in my shoe. i felt even more sorry for it. martina said what i was thinking: i must take it back to where i found it.

i went back on the street and walked back the way i came, with a shoe and the crab in the shoe. i started feeling very bad and thought how i really have no idea how much damage i have done to this crab. maybe it will never find its way back or it will never find its mate again. i tried to convince myself how maybe i saved it from being run over by a car but i still knew i was bad, that i should have left it as it was. i was sorry i did not check on wikipedia what crabs do so i knew better what to do with it. i was not able to remember where i actually found it and i did not see any other crabs.

i decided to leave it next to a small creek and watched it for a while and than walked home. i thought about writing this post, about how bad i was and how i hurt this little creature because i did not think of the consequences of my idiotic impulses. i also thought about many other things like morality of zoos and other animal imprisonments. i also thought about how i act in general.

it was a very stimulating experience meeting this crab and i am sorry i made it feel bad. i am sure it felt enormous fear, i am sure it felt this emotion just as i would feel it if something huge would just pick me up and take me away.

i just researched crabs online a bit and found out that a japanese spider crab can be 4 meters wide. that is one reason not to visit japan.

i am finally in south africa again, this time in a small town, stellenbosch, just outside cape town.

i have updated my contact information on the contact page – my cell here is + 27 72 2991221.

i will see how martina and i adapt to the small time in africa routine – we arrived here during xmass and it is super deserted, like no one anywhere. stellenbosch is a student town and most students are away to visit their families. it is very empty and shops are closed, surrounded by mountains and valleys and constantly burned by strong winds and sun. beaches are some 20km away so we can not cool down in the ocean.

i have chosen this place to see how it is to be in a small town. i have always daydreamed about such life and now i have a chance to try it. if i like it, if i absorb it fully, it might be a new way for me, and i can stop living in big dirty cities and spend some time in the small houses in the nature. i will see if this is possible in the next month.

stellenbosch is not really a super small place, it is still close to cape town which is quite big, but it gives me a good impression.

i am inspired by a friend of mine, stuart barnes, who moved from london to sedgefield, south africa, and has spent last few years in a small beach house surfing and making money with freelance coding for london clients.

i will see how it works out…

stay tuned…

songo.info (visit songo.info) is a charity project which fundraises for a bmx track in a stellenbosch township kayamandi. it consists of a bunch of super cool people including ruth bird who is managing the whole project and who invited me to sponsor the project with designm branding and internet stuff.

project is promoted by world champion mountainbiker christoph sauser (sauserwind.com) who together with barry stander competed in cape epic (cape-epic.com) as songo.info team. they were actually leading the first two stages of the race before barry got injured. however a lot of publicity has been gained and photos of them wearing songo.info shirts will go around the world.

i am super proud that my designs got such coverage and such impact – my goal was to make it super visual and obvious from distance exactly from such situations like racing and finishing a race on a bike etc. even more i am super proud that one day, maybe ten years form now, i will be back in stellenbosch and i will visit kayamandi and there will be a bmx track which i, in my own little way, have helped create. this is great!

i would suggest anyone anywhere to be part of such projects as they are so fullfilling.

thanks to ruth bird for making me part of this project and thanks to christoph, dan, barry, elana, anyone who was part of it and making it happen. awesome!
