anarcho-individualism is my political and moral choice
every day i enter discussions which relate to my political and moral point of views. no matter how many times i explain my believes many still do not remember them and annoy me with arguments. my political and moral views are very very very simple and predictable. therefore im writing down some of the basic elements of my political and moral views on which i try to base everything i do.
all terms are explained as how i understand them, these are not general definitions. if in some cases my definitions are not same as yours or most general - well - thats how it is than.
read please.
1 ) anarchism is how society should be and will be. it is a society without unnecessary hierarchy. unnecessary hierarchy is when you have someone telling you what to do while you do not really need him to tell you this. you need people to tell you how to do things if they know something and you don’t (like fixing a car) but you do not need people telling you to do stuff which is not necessary for you (like going to war to kill someone). these are super basic examples of acceptable and unacceptable hierarchy, in reality it is super complex and it takes a lot of figuring out as things are never black/white. however as human society evolves there will be less and less false authority and therefore society at some point will be anarchist (without false authority or artificial hierarchy).
2 ) many people say that this is not possible now. yes! of course it is not possible. but it does not mean that it will never be possible. anarchy is an utopia and utopia is a possibility. actually it is a certainty. human society will definitely evolve into anarchy, only question is when? in 1000 years or 100 000 years? it does not matter, what matters is that it will be anarchy and that anarchy is an absolute ideal social organization to which all other social systems should be compared to. it is an absolute ideal social system and therefore an absolute reference point for other systems like democracy or tyranny.
3 ) anarchy again is a huge variety of definitions and everybody has their own idea how this society will look like. it is actually a lot of fun to imagine it, to play with all the details: how would people collaborate, how would they work and create together, how would they move around, how would media work, how important would technology be… many people, especially anarchist, try to limit these definitions to something very rigid and than they make plans how to make it happen. this is kind of bizarre because anarchy must happen through evolution (slow organic growth) and not revolution (forced fast change). i am perfectly with thinking that anarchy will exist some million years from now, this makes me happy every day and i do little things today that echo and grow through time and hopefully will make anarchy happen just few years sooner. some anarchists however get very frustrated by this and want to see something big done now so they go around and break stuff and hurt people. some even become terrorists and bomb planes. this of course gives anarchy a very bad name but in fact this is not anarchy, these are frustrated impatient people who give themselves too much importance in their own time.
4 ) so you can slowly understand what anarchism is for me and how i take it - it is something that will happen millions of years from now but for it to happen i must do little things today. i have to do these little things by myself alone because only i can do them properly and i can not hide in a group or have someone else do them for me. for them to really have any effect on the success of this future society i have to do these things alone now. this is what i call anarcho-individualism.
5 ) these things that i do here and now are based mostly on taking personal responsibility for as many actions as possible. at first when i say this it sounds as if i am some kind of a super responsible person. not really. it just means that i try to understand my actions and also my reactions to my surroundings. many times i can be very irresponsible but i try to understand it and think how much did i help bring future anarchy closer to reality. however every second of every day i have dozens of political and moral dilemmas i have to figure out: if i help this old lady cross the street am i doing her good or am i making her weaker by enabling her to solve her own problems alone. it is easy to conclude that being an active anarcho-individualist is a great exercise for the mind.
6 ) individualism also means that one should understand that society is made of individuals not groups. groups of people are illusions. they do exist and you can see that some people are alike: all germans can be same in some way, all golfers are same in some way, all geeks are some in some way… however when you deal with people you do not deal with groups but with lots of individuals (marketers hate this!). also you are an individual who is part of many groups. every individual including you has to do things alone to make anarchy happen in the future. there is no other way, no hiding behind groups or having someone else do your work. you are alone in this work and that is how it always was and always will be. enjoy it.
7 ) this kind of thinking can be related to any current political or moral issue. just try to imagine that people are individuals who need to make their own choices which are based on their own responsibility and have a goal of absolute abolishment of false hierarchy and authority in the future. issues like war, abortion, gun control, drugs, prostitution, free trade… all can be examined through anarcho-individualism point of view. same goes for personal issues. one thing is for sure: it is up to you individually to figure things out.
8 ) anarchy has the best logo!
hope this makes it more clear.
