today is the 80th birthday of designer massimo vignelli.
vignelli designed brand and communication systems for benetton, american airlines, knoll and nyc subway.
i had a chance to work with him on benetton digital branding in 2000/2001.
he was super nice.
i think some people still misunderstand his work.
his work is combination of historical understanding, precise yet spontaneous process, holistic and compassionate analyses, and finally universal and complete results.
his designs are not here only to please, inform, entertain but also to teach, yet they are so simple, so basic.
i hope that sounds as nice as i wanted it.
